Umm Shaif Field

Umm Shaif Field, which lies some 150 kilometers northwest of the city of Abu Dhabi and 36 kilometers east of Das, is circular in shape and is approximately 360 square kilometers in area. It is a typical anticline structure, or to use more common terminal terminology, it is an upturned basin formation. As a result of preliminary surveys, drilling in the field started on 14th January, 1958, when the ADMA Enterprise spudded in for Well No. One, oil was found in this well at about 8,755 feet. In the ensuing spate of drilling activity, the field’s production kept rising steadily, where now it produces in the range of 225,000 barrels of oil per day.

The initial production scheme consisted of drilling additional wells, connecting them to a collecting platform at the center of the field by a submarine pipeline, linking this central platform to Das Island with a further submarine pipe, and then degassing the crude on the Island and finally discharging it to tankers through a fixed tanker berth.

In addition to oil, Umm Shaif Field became a major gas producer following the completion of the Umm Shaif Gas Development Project in 1994. This was further consolidated with the Offshore Khuff Gas Development Project (OKGDP). To date, the field contains more than 300 oil and gas producing wells.

Zakum Field

In Zakum Field, which ranks among one of the largest offshore fields in the world, and in the Gulf region, the first well was drilled in April 1963, and production commenced in October 1967 yielding large quantities. The field, which lies some 65 kilometers north-west of Abu Dhabi city, is asymmetrical anticline, approximately 1270 square kilometers in area, and contains five separate zones which make up Lower and Upper Zakum. Field development, however, had been centered right from the beginning on the lower zones in view of their superior productivity.
